Three For The Road

Posted on April 27, 2022 at 6:50 PM

I have been rehearsing regularly with two friends, Stuart Neal on guitar and Neville Hermes on electric bass.  We collectively call ourselves Three For The Road, with Naoki Kimpara joining us occasionally on drums.  We play at the Barrier Reef Hotel with the Tropical Jazz Club of Cairns when invited to do so.  The Jazz Club events occur every Sunday fortnight.

Together, we perform some of the most popular jazz titles, and will often feature an "open mic" segment for anyone who would like to come up and sing a song or two.

It's a nice way to spend a warm Cairns Sunday afternoon listening to some great jazz songs from local artists - not just us, but quite a few others as well.

Love jazz?  Join the Tropical Jazz Club at the Barrier Reef Hotel, Wharf St Cairns from 2-5pm.  See their Faceboook page for a list of upcoming artists.

Covid-19 Situations

Posted on October 7, 2020 at 6:55 PM

Because the entire world is in a virtual lockdown with so many restrictions, I've not been immune to this at all.  In fact, I haven't performed at a real venue since early February, when the proverbial started to hit the fan.

Now that Queensland has relaxed a lot of the restrictions regarding weddings, music venues and restaurants, we are slowly beginning to come back into the world of entertainment.

It's been a long, hard road to travel, these last nine months or so, and I''m not pretending we are out of danger completely, but supporting local entertainment will certainly help us all as we deal with the mental strangle that's been placed on us by this terrible pandemic.

I'm happy that the Morrison government has responded well to its citizens and hope the response is ongoing.

Please support your local area entertainment by attending a concert, going to the pub or even sending a Like on Facebook to them when you can.

stay safe all and God bless

Because of numerous "spam" comments, some very offensive, I've had to disable comments completely on this page.  It's terrible that some have to flog crap at every opportunity, but such is the situation in this world.

On Air!

Posted on March 23, 2020 at 6:30 PM

Yes, I'm on air at Phoenix 96.3fm in Bundaberg each Wed and Fri morning from 9-12.  My program is titled "Morning Jukebox" and I love playing many songs from the 40s especially, when artists like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat 'King' Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and numerous others made their mark in musical history.

Not only am I on air, but the station is streaming live across the internet 24/7.  You can tune in from wherever you are by pointing your browser to and clicking on the "Listen Now" button at the top of any page.  There are options on the website to leave comments, and I'd love to hear from you, even taking requests via the website, so do feel free to drop a line.

Otherwise, my email address for the station is [email protected]

Swing you later!

Virus Situation hits hard!

Posted on March 23, 2020 at 6:20 PM

Hello dear friends and family

Undoubtedly, the Covid 19 (Coronavirus) pandemic has affected many in the entertainment industry, including myself after already having a number of gigs canceled. No one has any definite answers as to how long the situation will last, but many say many months.

I'll no longer be posting notices of myself regarding availability, because here in Australia, all gatherings are forbidden, and all licensed clubs and venues, restaurants and cafes, cinemas, churches, and virtually all public gathering places are forced closed, which means no opportunity for entertainers either.

I'll no longer be performing at local markets either, at least for the forseeable future, which has no time indications at present.

I wish all my friends, family and musical colleagues the very best in health and safety and to urge the recommended hygiene practices stated by your own governments and medical professionals.

Above all, stay safe, stay healthy, and stay POSITIVE! We will, as a world, overcome this pandemic if we ALL follow procedures.

News from Canada!

Posted on September 6, 2019 at 8:20 PM

Most of you know that I'm on a kind of hiatus from the usuail world I live in, in that I'm spending almost a month in my native Canada.  Yes, born in Montreal but have lived virtunately across this wide land, from Nova Scotia to Jasper.

A brief stay in Vancouver around 1975 saw me and my good freind Don Cope saw us travel from Montreal to Vancouver.  Little did  know then that the western bug would bite me and wouild see me return for four more seasons at Jasper Park Lodge.  It was this recent return that made all things come true, so to speak, for me.  Sure, a ot of memories from some 40-odd years ago, but a walk up into Staff Services (stil in block C by the way!) and requesting employment information for my 20-year old daughter, made it all so much worthwhie.

But the high light was to meet Don and his wife, after some 45 years of absence!  What an absolute joy!

So I think I may have instilled the image of employement while enjoying so much of the wildlife, culture and life skills that Jasper offers so much.  I don't expect them to make the same kind of convicted encoounters with Nature and the park itself, I'm hoping i've given Sarah and Clancy the impetus to give it a year and see what happens.  A year will come and go none-the-less, but here is a glorious chance to see it come true and chalk it up to experience.

CD Released!

Posted on August 21, 2019 at 2:00 AM

After many months of trial and error, I'm proud to announce the release of my first CD, recorded and produced by The Shed, Bundaberg and expertly mixed and rendered by Rob Elkin, who did such a fabulous job of everything!

For sale here in Australia for only $15, I can have one posted to you for only a dollar more.  If overseas, the total cost is $18AUD and you can remit via PayPal.

Otherwise, I'll often have copies with me wherever I'm performing, including Bargara Markets and other venues.

Off to Canada!

Posted on August 21, 2019 at 1:55 AM

Hi all

I realise I haven't written on my blog for some time, and hope I'll be forgiven.  Latest news that Ros, I and Sarah and her boyfriend are off to Canada for the month of September.  Actually, Sarah arrived in Vancouver on the 20th of August, we will join her and Clancy on Tuesday the 27th.

This obviously means that I will not be available for the entire month of September, but return on the 27th.

Until then, do take care and I'll see you back at Rick's at Bargara on my return!
